Chewing gum – A Litter Dilemma

Chewing gum is made of synthetic rubber and sweetening.

When people throw away chewing gum, they may be left on roads, trees, or walls. This is really bad because chewing gum gets stuck and doesn’t come off easily.

Governments use tax money to take off the chewing gum off surfaces.

Small birds and fish could swallow chewing gum and die. Also, harsh chemicals are used for removal, and eventually end up in bodies of water.

Even worse, chewing gum is not biodegradable and can’t be recycled yet.

Worldwide, 560,000,000 kg of chewing gum is consumed each year.

Chewing gum is the second most littered item in the world after cigarette butts.

What should you do?

The best solution is to wrap your chewing gum in paper or a wrapper and throw it in the trash. This way tax money, resources, they’and lives can be saved.

Make Earth Cleaner. Use trash cans, they’re not there for nothing.
