In this infographic, I tell how music affects your productivity.
Music and Productivity
Music is virtually everywhere. We listen to music for pleasure and to help manage stressful, boring or overall negative feelings. So, how does music affect concentration, productivity, and creativity?
#1 Music helps you to finish boring and repetitive tasks faster
Studies have proven background music can speed up working. It is especially useful for repetitive or boring jobs.
#2 Listen to music while doing what you do best
While doing what you do the best, music has the power to improve performance and decrease errors. The Journal of the American Medical Association found that surgeons who heard background music worked more accurately.
#3 Atmospheric sound is the creative happy medium
Moderate ambient sounds help get ‘creative juices’ flowing, while loud sounds could interrupt concentration.
#4 Music with lyrics can be distracting
For example, while writing and listening to lyrics, our language center activates, making your brain overwork. A study showed that 48% of participants listed that understandable sound was the main cause for distraction.
Note! Music with lyrics are great for physical tasks, such as intensive workouts.
#5 Music that you know is the best
Listening to your favorite music may be beneficial to concentrate. When hearing something new, we give more attention to it and therefore lose focus.
