Why is the Environment Important?

Hey there, fellow environmental enthusiasts and curious minds! I’ve bet you’ve heard these days the word “environment” more than ever before. But have you ever pondered why is the environment so important in the first place? Let’s explore this question.

The environment is everything that surrounds us. This includes all living organisms. When the environment is in a good state, it is possible for life to exist. We depend on the environment for life. Everything, from water to clean air comes from the environment. We also depend on other living organisms, such as plants that provide us with food and oxygen.

Every living organism depends on the environment, including us

When the environment is in a worse state, elements that allow for life to exist start to fail. Maybe there’s too little water, or maybe it’s too hot. In this current era, humanity is the dominating force changing the environment’s state, and unfortunately, we’re generally changing the environment into a worse state.

Humanity is currently the dominating force changing the environment’s state

We don’t just only depend on the environment for life, the environment also affects our quality of life. Imagine a time when you were in a place where maybe the air was polluted, plants and animals were nowhere to be seen, and the noise was constant and loud. Now imagine a time where you were in a more pleasant environment. Maybe the air was clean and fresh, there was a beautiful scenery, and it was serene. Which environment would you want to live in?

The environment’s state affects all parts of wellbeing, from health to food security. Sometimes you don’t have to be in the damaged environment to feel the negative effects. If farms cannot produce enough food due to water pollution, you will see the effect when shopping.

We depend on the environment. If we continue to harm the environment, the consequences will get even worse. However, this also means, that if we fix the mistakes, and we live in harmony with nature, we can ensure a bright future. So let’s work towards environmental sustainability.
